Plans are being made by President Trump to cut the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget by 31percent. If you’re a resident of Pittsburgh, this may have the potential to affect you more than you realize. A decent portion of this funding that the EPA is losing goes towards programs within Pittsburgh to keep our air and water quality in check.

It’s no secret that Pittsburgh doesn’t have the best air quality. In fact it has one of the worst according to the American Lung Association. Many of these programs are working to monitor the pollution that is causing this terrible air and water quality, but they can’t do it for free.

Some of these programs will be cut by 30 to 50 percent and others may be eliminated entirely. By cutting these programs or reducing their budgets, we are losing our rights to clean air and water and putting ourselves at risk for major health issues including asthma, cancer, and many other terrible diseases. We must let our representatives know that they need to remember the lungs of their constituents.
